ANGEL GAME 1: GROUP A

[You enter the tent to find yourself in what appears to be a conference room in the sky. The walls and ceiling consist of a glass dome, outside of which a raging thunderstorm can be seen. If you approach the wall, you’ll find the room seems to be floating. Down below is a forest, but it’s raining so hard that it’s impossible to make out any details.

The inside of the room has only a large, circular table. In the center is open space, and around the outer edge are high-backed chairs. In front of each chair is a paper with a copy of the rules -- when everyone sits, the game will begin.

In Group A is: ginger, thyme, & licorice.]

Any monster within city limits should be dispatched immediately. I'm not sure how this is even a discussion.

Define "monster."

[gestures at the shadow in the cage]

Something like that, of course.

That's not a definition, that's an example.

Alright, then. "Malicious fiends that roam untamed areas, and are likely to damage property and/or attack people."

Better. And see, here's where this is worthy of discussion, because that's not the definition I know. Monster is just a general term applied to magic-generating animals in my world, like dragons or rocs.

That seems unproductive. In mine, a dragon is a holy beast. Quite a different matter.

Nevertheless, assuming this shadowy beast we're being shown is our monster, then I don't believe it's any such lofty creature. It's simply an intruding danger to be eliminated.

I can summon a dragon right now that would be exactly as shadowy as that creature.

Please don't summon a dragon.

I'm not going to. I already called him once today, and I'm not going to tire myself out just to make a point.

He would be shadowy because the room is shadowy. Earlier today he was fog, and if there was a fire he'd be smoke.

That's... actually quite interesting.

Monster is a vague term. We already know that each of us come from different worlds. The fact is, we do not know what sort of creature this is at all. It may be intelligent and mean no harm.

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] ruinatings 2018-12-19 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
If it was, why call it a monster at all?

It still doesn't tell us enough. It clearly refuses to kill any of our soldiers. That alone is evidence that we should investigate this creature further. We should hold it captive while we gather information.

If that's the option you want to take, I'm not going to fight with all of you. But I feel it's a waste of resources.

I understand that. But an army that does not operate by laws is simply a pack of bandits. We don't know our forces resource constraints anyhow.

I'm quite aware of the value of law and order. I've just never seen it applied to monsters.

If I stopped to attempt communication with every monster I met for the first time I'd be both very behind schedule and very dead.
