[Whether willing or just, there comes a magical shove to force you and someone else through the door leading down into the earth.]

[The passageway is cold, but at least it's well lit. Albeit with flames of blue fire.]

[It goes down, down, down, until you reach the first part....]

[He nods, biting his bottom lip. He had been told these were a thing beforehand, at least.]

I think I could probably climb down fine... [The spikes look bad, but he's a nimble-ish kid.]

[With a closer inspection, the gaps in the spikes are peppered throughout the field.]

[Except near to the ledge.]

[Those are tightly packed. Even the closest gap would require some kind of jump alone.]

[granted, the 'normal human' thing is messing with Cat, who is rather above average in strength and speed]

I wonder if someone could use the elevator to get down, and then catch the other. Less risk for the jumper, but more for the person doing the catching.

No, not really.

[He takes another look.]

That might work if you could jump far enough, but I think that's too far. At least for me to jump. But it's a nice thought.

[The required jump wouldn't have to be far.]

[Really, the danger comes from the height of the spikes combined with the size of the hole. Even if someone hit the hole right, the angle would lead to serious injury.]

It would at least give a larger landing spot. I don't see something we could carry onto the spikes once one of us gets down. Unless you want to try to dismantle the elevator door.

Oh, could it get taken apart?

[It doesn't look like it could be used to climb down so much as maybe lay across the tops of the spikes and maybe make for a more stable landing point, but even that was a toss up if the door was less stable than it seemed.]

... Do you really think you could catch me if I jumped?

Yes. I'm stronger than I look. Just aim well, but it would be easier than having either of us trying to hit the clear patches.

[He nods.]

Okay. Let's give it a try.

[He's a brave boy. He doesn't necessarily have any reason to trust she will catch him, but there is no way back. Only forward.]

I'll try the elevator then.

If I'm wrong, I'll send it up for you.

Let's hope the elevator is nice!

[The lift begins to move and with it, the gate latches shut.]

[It travels down the space carved out in the rock, down, down, down to the other gate.]

[There's the click of a latch here as the lift settles, allowing for the gate to be opened.]

[stops to look for a button or dial that she can use before she leaves the gate]

[probably not; if not, she'll start picking her way back towards the cliff.]

[It is a lever.]

[One that will not engage while the gate is opened.]

Hmm...

I have an idea. Hang on.

[she has a knife and a skirt, that is enough to get a primitive rope. time to see if she can tie it to the lever and pull the lever from the other side of the grate.]

[He watches, intent. Up until he realizes she's taking off some clothes, then he turns his back because, yeah, he's not sure he wants to see that even in a survival situation.]

[He calls back over his shoulder:] Just let me know when you're done!

[She can actually pull the lever through the gate.]

[Unfortunately it seems that isn't the only requirement to engage the mechanism to move the lift.]

[Cat is going to curse in a harsh language and retrieve her rope, and make sure she's fully dressed, minus a ragged hem.]

Okay, you can look. It didn't work.

[He doesn't look back until she says to, glancing to the elevator for a moment and realizing it wasn't going to be coming back. Oh well.]

It was a good idea, I'm sure!

[time to pick her way through the spikes]

[It takes some careful walking to avoid getting stabbed or slice, but with enough patience, easy enough to accomplish.]

[But after all that movement through the spikes, Cat can notice when she gets to the spots closest to the ledge, they seem to be...bigger. Not by a lot, there's still only room for one foot each.]

[But there's more room to move. To adjust and compensate if someone wanted to do something more dramatic than walk.]

[good, it will give her room to maneuver]

All right. I'm ready. There's a small amount of space here.

[arms up]

[She's closer than he expected, but that's a good thing. Whatever fears he had about not making it far enough were assuaged. Now he just has to trust she can actually catch him.]

Alright! I will jump then!

[He judges where she is, and takes a few steps back to give himself a little room to pick up some speed and give himself enough push to lunge to her general area.]

[For a pretty brave kid, he's also not stupid and generally not willing to risk possible injury like this. But when push comes to shove, he's not one to lie down and give up. Steeling himself, he starts to run and takes a leap right at the edge...!

[It's a tricky move, it's a risky move, but there is at least a little more space, enough to adjust, to not completely overbalance at a moment's notice.]

[But it's enough working together, and moving quick to not completely fall into the spikes. There is some harm, the tips digging into legs and thighs as they shift, and it hurts.]

[It hurts, but beyond the sting of an injury and a bit of blood, it's nothing debilitating. And Klarion is safely on the ground.]

[winces, but doesn't cry out]. All right. OUt of the spikes now.
