ANGEL GAME 1: GROUP A

[You enter the tent to find yourself in what appears to be a conference room in the sky. The walls and ceiling consist of a glass dome, outside of which a raging thunderstorm can be seen. If you approach the wall, you’ll find the room seems to be floating. Down below is a forest, but it’s raining so hard that it’s impossible to make out any details.

The inside of the room has only a large, circular table. In the center is open space, and around the outer edge are high-backed chairs. In front of each chair is a paper with a copy of the rules -- when everyone sits, the game will begin.

In Group A is: ginger, thyme, & licorice.]

It isn't the victim's family's responsibility. Accident or not, the man killed someone in the process of stealing from them. He's the one who made that decision.

Mm. There is a legal concept in certain countries called "weregild," but I suggest that in any case, we find the family and feed them anyway, as wards of the state. Poverty is itself an injustice, an inefficiency in social organization.

Yes, poverty is unfortunate, but that isn't the question we're facing.

[why are all of you so hung up on these extra things]

[they're asking us to be just, okay

also she's a peasant with an anti-elitist streak]

We were allowed to pin riders onto our last answer though. I agree, that at the bare minimum, the criminal must be executed, but magistrates often have power to pursue other solutions beyond and in addition to punishment.

...If poverty is simply a given though, than just carry out the execution.

I understand your position. Unfortunately, any state in a society that isn't somehow perfect is going to have limited funds. Taking in one family would only mean taking in more. Should the government have the kind of leeway to abolish poverty, this scenario wouldn't exist in the first place.

So I'm in favor of a simple execution.

[MY POOR FARM FAMILY

that I barely remember except that they died in a sinkhole that had nothing to do with being poor

actually they looked pretty comfortable for peasants]

Mm. Well, what justice can be done, must be done. Ideally, the government already has a fund for widows and orphans.
