[And frowning again. Maybe Felix is stonewalling him because of his parting remark, but it's more likely that communication isn't allowed.]

"You can only choose to go back once." Not the lift, but the path itself? [He looks up at the glass door and back the way he came. Maybe he could open the door then go back for Felix, or maybe he already used up his return trip going back down the stairs.

[Maybe he's being overly cautious, but he doesn't want to risk locking them both out. And while he could continue alone, cooperation at a cost has been a theme of this trial so far as he can tell. Taking the easy way alone might well be a fail at the end. He'll spend a good minute memorizing the layout of the room before heading back into the portal.]
