I wonder if the ticking was the mechanism for keeping one person out. Timing it so that one person had to press the lever so the other could get through.

[maybe they should have experimented more. Oh, well..]

[There's a hum of energy as they approach the magic and then step through.]

[As predicted, this is a neutral option and for good reason.]

[It almost seems like there isn't, able to get through the barrier most of the way with only a small tingling feeling, but as soon as they're more in the other room then this, the tingling wraps up hard and fast, sending an electric shock through them, causing muscles to seize and spasm.]

[The pain is enough to bring most to their knees.]

[A shock will linger through them for a minute or two.]

[But it's not enough to knock them out or kill them.]

[Then the next room.]
